Mike started his legal career as a litigator in the Miami office of Floyd Pearson. In 1990, Mike relocated to New York City and joined Herzfeld & Rubin, where he gained valuable trial experience in the fields of premises liability, product liability, Labor Law, trucking/auto and construction defect. In 1997, Mike was asked to join Lustig & Brown to manage their general liability practice group in New York City. In 2009, Mike moved his practice to Kenney Shelton Liptak Nowak where he opened and managed their New York City office. Throughout his career, Mike has focused on defending against personal injury and property damage claims.
Kevin Hickman is the Managing Partner of the firm. He has been engaged in the practice of law in the New York metropolitan area since 2004. His areas of focus have included the defense of general contractors and subcontractors in construction accident cases under the New York Labor Law, as well as the defense of major commercial motor carriers, passenger transportation companies and private and commercial airlines in the State and Federal courts of New York and New Jersey. Kevin has also litigated insurance coverage and reinsurance disputes nationwide on behalf of domestic as well as British and German insurers. He has obtained numerous favorable reported decisions during the course of his practice.
Prior to joining the firm, Kevin spent several years as a claims manager in the liability department at a national commercial trucking and passenger transportation insurer. He managed litigation and claims on behalf of motor carriers of varying sizes, from large national accounts to single owner-operator outfits, assisted with risk management, and discussed resolution strategy with transportation companies in self-insured and group captive arrangements nationwide. He also spoke on trucking and transportation litigation topics including case evaluation, litigation management and negotiation strategy at motor carrier functions throughout the country.
Sherri Pavloff has specialized in the representation of insurers facing insurance coverage disputes since 1991. She provides analysis and interpretation of a wide range of insurance coverage issues, including general liability, umbrella/excess, professional liability, directors & officers, and many first party coverages. Sherri also provides counsel in environmental, products liability, labor law and professional liability claims; mediates and litigates coverage and bad faith lawsuits through and including the appellate process; and provides risk management services. She has numerous reported appellate decisions and writes and speaks on topics of interest to her clients.
In my free time, I spend time exploring the world with my husband and son – If we can get there in a day of driving, we will go. I also enjoy going on walks around the neighborhood, hanging out with friends and trying new things.
Jah Nuru began her legal practice representing predominantly Spanish-speaking residents in New York Housing Court for non-payment and holdover matters. She has previous law firm experience in Construction Litigation and worked as Contracts Manager for several large bridge and rail projects in San Francisco, CA and Tarrytown, NY. She is a former Law Clerk for the Office of the Alameda Public Defender.
Carmen Borbon graduated from St. John’s University School of Law in 2015. She was admitted to practice law in NY in 2016. Prior to joining Stonberg Moran, Carmen worked at another insurance defense firm where she defended personal injury claims, with an emphasis on premises liability (slip/trip & falls) and Labor Law claims. Carmen also has prior experience on the plaintiff’s side of personal injury claims, which gives her a well-rounded perspective.

Bruce W. McCoy, Jr. is a senior associate with over twenty years of civil litigation, appellate and trial experience defending individuals and businesses throughout New York and New Jersey in matters involving automotive collisions, premises liability, New York Labor Law, professional liability, toxic torts and product liability. Most recently his practice has focused on defending owners, general contractors and subcontractors in personal injury matters typically involve issues of New York Labor Law, contract indemnification and premises liability throughout the five boroughs of New York City. In addition, Bruce McCoy’s insurance defense practice has also included the defense of high net-worth artists and entertainers in personal liability actions venued throughout New York.
Notable past trial experience includes the successful defense of a security company in a traumatic brain injury case; the defense of an insured motorist in a left-turn case involving issues of admissibility of photogrammetry for the calculation a vehicle’s speed; and the defense of a motorist in a seven-car collision involving two plaintiffs and two separate sets of chain-reaction collisions. His appellate experience has included the successful defense of summary judgment obtained in matters involving premises liability, professional liability and employment.
Allen is an aggressive litigator with the ability to accurately assess liability and damages very early in litigation. Allen brings years of experience representing insureds and self-insureds in premises liability, labor law, MVA, property damage and a wide variety of claims. Several of Allen’s cases have been published by the NY Law Journal and are widely cited.
Elizabeth has been practicing law since her admission to the New York State Bar in 2003. She began her career in insurance defense litigation representing clients in matters involving intentional torts, premises liability, products liability as well as medical malpractice defense. She has experience with every phase of litigation including conducting statutory hearings, motion practice, depositions, trial preparation and appeals. She is also well experienced in the area of real estate transactions, representing purchasers, sellers and lenders.
